Cycling for Crosshouse - Michael and Gordon's Challenge
Last month, supporters Michael and Gordon completed a 200-mile cycle in aid of Crosshouse Children’s Fund, raising an outstanding £10,270!
Michael and Gordon both have a personal connection to Crosshouse Children’s Fund, after their families received incredible care and support from staff on the Neonatal Unit in Crosshouse Hospital.
Receiving Support at Crosshouse
Gordon’s daughter, Orla, was born in December 2020. Due to some complications at birth, she went on to spend 10 days in between the NICU and Special Care Baby Unit at Crosshouse.
Michael’s daughter, Robyn, was born in July 2014 and 8 weeks prematurely, spending time in the Neonatal Unit receiving specialist care.
Gordon and Michael’s families both benefitted from the family rooms in the hospital, allowing their families to remain close during critical moments.
“Having access to the family rooms made a huge difference and helped make what was a very challenging time that little bit easier.
“We will always remember the care, kindness and support we received, not only in looking after our children, but also for supporting us parents.”

Giving Back Through Fundraising
Michael and Gordon wanted to take on a fundraising challenge as a way of giving back for the incredible care their families received.
They decided to embark on a 2-day cycling challenge, covering 200 miles and spanning the breadth of Scotland. Setting off from St Andrews, the pair then travelled through Striling, before finishing in their hometown of Ayr.
Michael and Gordon share:
“We felt that we should be doing something that was genuinely challenging to show our appreciation.
“The challenge was tough with strong winds both days, but every mile was made easier by knowing why we were doing it.
“The charity helps provide support that can make a difficult experience a little bit easier for children and their families. The charity supports the environment around the medical care and helps families feel cared for as well as their children.
“Knowing that by raising funds, we can help other families like ours, made the challenge worthwhile.”
